Let’s break for questions!

What’s up with all the memberships?

There are several steps a team must take to participate in OM, which is the result of the program’s organizational structure. Odyssey comprises the national/international organization (often referred to as HQ), state chapters, local members (usually schools), and teams. California is divided into two chapters, NorCal and SoCal. San Francisco, Silicon Valley, the North Bay and all areas north to the state line are part of the NorCal Odyssey of the Mind.

To participate in the program, a group, usually a school, must first purchase a National Membership. Then, to participate locally, an Association (State) Membership is necessary. OM is an all-volunteer-run network, so membership fees are used to keep the program going every year!

What do I get with my membership?

One National Membership allows a school or civic group to form five teams in each division, including an unlimited number of primary teams. If an elementary school with grades TK through 6 purchased a membership, it could have five Division 1 teams, five Division 2 teams, and an unlimited number of primary teams.

A membership gives you access to full Long-Term problems, your membership area, coach and judge training, the clarification system and, within the NorCal Association, a Team Coordinator who is here to support your team through the whole OM season.

Form your team

Teams of up to seven students and a coach are organized under a school, home school, or community group.

Review materials & Get Going!

Once you have a membership and a team, you can review the problems, program guide and other materials. You can decide which problem you want to solve and get started. Give your team the best chance at success by thoroughly understanding the problem and the rules.
